Pool excavations – what to expect
If you’re like most Aussies and plan to build your swimming pool in your backyard, be prepared to live in a construction zone. Excavating establishes the pool’s foundation and sets the stage for the rest of the work which can get quite messy. It can take between 1 to 2 days to complete the excavation, depending on some key factors.
Key factors
There are many complexities involved with excavating pools, there is more to it than just digging a hole. Professional excavators like No Bull Building, will take into account the following:
Accessing the site. There are many limitations that can make this initial construction stage difficult. It could be narrow driveways or pathways, height restrictions of garages or carports, overhead eaves along with gardens or feature walls. The worst scenario that will add time and money to the job, is if you need to remove these blockages.
The slope of the yard. Did you know the slope of the yard and turning radius can affect the type of machinery used for digging? No Bull Building has both mini and full size excavators available, so you can relax knowing we can work in almost any size yard.
Underground condition. It is critical to know what’s going on below the ground. When digging sand, more care is given because there is a bigger chance of undermining or falling of nearby structures. If there is a rock, the possible options are to move to another area, elevate the pool, or remove the rock. If there is groundwater, you’ll need to pump it out.
How much dirt is dug up?
You’ll be surprised how much soil needs to be removed. For an average size pool, approximately 110 tons of soil will need to be dug up. Some of the soil can be reallocated in your backyard but most of it will need to be carefully disposed of. Our tip tucks can handle the soil removal, no matter what size the excavation.
